For the individual, one’s ability to affect the material world is usually local, limited to matters of home, workplace, and neighborhood. Out of this question come the ethological rules of economic efficiency and custodianship; ethological in the sense that messiness, littering, poor property maintenance, and waste are harmful to the self and others. There is further the matter of compassion with respect to sentient beings.
